The Importance of post workout recovery - Vifit Sport
I was sent an amazing bundle of Vifit Sport High Recovery Bars to try and incorporate into my new workout regime.
They come in three delicious flavours; lemon yogurt, peach yoghurt and cranberry these protein bars are so refreshing and a welcoming change from a boring bog standard chocolate protein bar. The Lemon one is my absolute favourite!!
The reasoning behind their bars is all about the importance of post workout recovery, which I wanted to discuss.
Why is post workout recovery important?
I am always stressing to people who ask me fitness for advice to make sure they have the right protein/carb combination within 30 minutes after training.
Once you’ve had a hard training session, lifted heavy, run far etc.., whatever workout you have done intensely this exercise depletes your muscles, causing minor damage. Exercise breaks down our carbohydrate stores and protein structures and you hear how your muscles "tear" when you train, well those muscles need to be repaired and those protein and carbohydrate stores need to be replenished after training, so your muscles can rebuild bigger and stronger.
How do you repair and replenish those muscles post workout?
I get so frustrated by people whose post workout meal is either nothing, or a very unbalanced meal. YOU NEED A BALANCE OF PROTEIN AND CARBS!
Protein is very important post workout!
During your exercise you are breaking down muscles, protein is essential for repairing and restoring those broken down muscles and allowing for a speedy recovery.
All modes of exercise use carbohydrates for energy and carb depletion post workout will happen, which is why you need to replenish your carbs in a higher quantity post workout than you would any other time of the day. Consuming a decent amount of carbs and protein post workout will kick start the muscle growth and recovery process.
If you're like me and travel to the gym, once you have finished a session you could be missing that vital window of replenishing your muscles with the right nutrition, Vifit bar has a good balance of the protein and carbs that you need to replenish your muscle stores - per bar there is 20g of Protein and 17g of Carbohydrates.
They are easy to put in my gym bag and consume as soon as I've finished training so I don’t miss that vital window!
Plus they come in refreshing, tasty flavours!
So next time you wonder why your muscles aren’t growing, check your post workout regime!
