I know it's not long but for me to even do that was a huge achievement. I wanted to prove that instagram isn't this terrible thing that gives people body envy & makes them self conscious which can lead to mental health problems. i'm sure that's the case for some but in my case instagram actually helped my recovery!
I started my instagram by using it as a food diary; my thinking was, i had to make food so i could take a picture then i had to eat it because i wanted to be real on there. Sounds silly but it worked! Once i started to fall in love with cooking, i began creating recipes and blogging - from there on i fell back in love with food. it also helped that weightlifting made me HUNGRY!!
When i felt comfortable in my recovery i began sharing that on instagram and all i received was positive, supporting comments. Instagram isn't full of 'trolls' especially in the fitness community there is a lot of supportive people who admire honesty and always provide words of encouragement. sometimes it's easier to talk about your problems with 'strangers' - i have met so many people from instagram who i am now friends with. It brings people with the same interests & same hardships together.
